Healthpartners' system is laced with lousy practitioners. Their billing department is only staffed with dreck.

Note what I said and didn't say. There's more than a fair number of good to excellent people in their system, but guess what? Only takes one Loser to ruin your day. There's some front desk staff at the Apple Valley office that have deep-seated issues with African-Americans. They'll leave ya waiting forever, they'll play silly, pointless games (like trying to tell me Midget has no insurance cuz THEY'VE misspelled her name by a single letter) AND we've had Family MDs that shouldn't have licenses. Like the one the ex had when pregnant with LP. Don't get me started. Go to Bloomington instead? Everyone's a (bleep)ing professional grownup. Guess if they didn't like a diverse clientele, they'd have run screaming from there in a week.

On the other hand, their billing department runs rife with scum. Beady-eyed, subhuman rodent thieves. They'll know damned well what they're doing is wrong--but they'll see if they can get away with it. Years ago, they billed me $800 for an MRI that shoulda been 100% covered. Wait, double-billed me. Only the first visit was stopped before it started because their extremity coil was broken. See what I mean? How can they bill me for services never performed?? They tried anyway.

But I told you that to tell you this.

B's bill came from her first plastic surgeon office visit. They billed us $250...which was every dime they'd been charged. When B called them? They told her the provider was 'out of network.' When proven we were REFERRED to that doctor, the Billing Scumbag answered we'd been referred by our cancer center, not B's primary physician. Um WHAAAA?!?!?! She told B she should switch to another doctor in their network.

Can you imagine a WOMAN telling another woman to switch plastic surgeons in mid-procedure? What sort of insensitive, unfeeling beast would ask that of someone who'd made choices of that nature and established trust on that level? Hell isn't hot enough.

One small problem with this logic: The same doctor WORKS AT ONE OF THEIR CLINICS TOO. YES. HE DOES. Obviously, it's 3000% bullshit runaround that has NOTHING to do with anything.

So this soulless number-crunching zombie told B the only exception (besides seeing him on Thursdays instead of Tuesdays at one of their clinics? Cuz there WAS that, right?) was to convince her GP to submit a 'referral exception.' Only it's 'very, very rare that they'd do that.'

Oh reallllly?

Rule Number One if you're dealing with a scumbag HMO? Get To Know Your Primary. Feel VERY good about your primary and be damned sure they feel that way about you.

Brenda's GP wrote one for 52 VISITS lasting from now until the end of the year.
And sent B a copy just in case theirs got mysteriously lost.

Suck on THAT, Butt Monkeys.

They told her 'we'll cover that visit.'

And every other one after that. Yup. That you will.
