Creamy snot day
May. 12th, 2006 12:01 pmAfter Wednesday night's horrific attempt at sleep--including a few hours of what I'd best describe as near-delirium, I actually sent to see a doctor. Okay, nurse practitioner, 21st century health care being what it is. Still, that's plenty considering the last time I went to a clinic at all I was still--gasp--MARRIED.
Results? Nothing worth mentioning. 98.5 degree temperature. Rapid strep negative. Negative for sinus infection. She was about to prescribe me something anyway (you know how some folks love their meds!) but i waved her off and told her I'd go OTC.
So why was I getting sicker by the day when I usually shake off cold symptoms in a day? I thought and thought and realized the obvious answer: I was sleeping with the enemy. In other words, the respiratory antagonist--or combination thereof--had to be somewhere in my room .
A trip to the laundromat, new sheet set and pillow, vacuum cleaner excursion under the bed later, I was pretty sure I'd got it.
Did I sleep better? Somewhat. I didn't need as much medication but still needed to free up the lungs every now and then.
Today I feel a lot better, but you'd never know it from hearing me. It's a Creamy Snot Day. When I get that certain feeling in my uh, secretions? I know my cold's on the run. But the phlegm's gotta go somewhere first.
Me: Hack hack cough hack cough.
Co-workers: Go HOME!!!!!!
Me: I got OT to do.
Them: So what? You sound like...
Me: I know! But seriously, I feel a lot better.
Them: Hmmmmph.
Me: And I did take most of yesterday off too.
(Sick days taken off this year: 1)
(Hours of remaining sick time: 517)
Them: We're throwing cough drops over the wall.
Me: They better (haaaaack) be sugar-free. (Cough cough) Carb diet.
Them: STOP BREATHING! Dayum!
