So while the people I work for are in the midst of interviewing and hiring 8 new people (count 'em, eight!) we get another order from way up high--like, way WAY up--telling us we'd better hire 12 more.
Twelve? Like a DOZEN? Really really?
I've never seen that happen in my nearly 15 years here.
I think what they're trying to say in so many words is: Buckle up, people. We're about to get SWAMPED in work. And not the usual day-in, day-out swamping we've seen without letup since oh, back in the Clinton days when unemployment was so low they were literally laying off people in the local unemployment offices...
Or perhaps they've noticed the typical (lousy) attrition rate during training and realize if we hire 12, maybe just maybe we'll keep two thirds of 'em.
You know, one of the pluses of the recession--at least here--might be that they'd be less likely to bolt. Yeah, I know. Not funny in the slightest. But true.
