Last night was good.

newlifeinstpaulIt was good to finally meet V (or is it K?) yesterday. She's a lot funnier/cuter/enjoyable to be around than she gives herself credit for. Of course she woulda been more driving an Altima :-P and I resent that she didn't introduce me to her cats...but I digress.
I liked Idlewild a lot more than I thought I would after reading all the complaining reviews. It's not intended to be an intellectual thriller, ya know? It's brainless fun from a couple guys who write songs and shoot videos. Of course, familiarity with the CD greases the skids of enjoyment quite a bit, too.
Don't expect much of the album to make it to the screen. Two of the ragtime pieces play during the credits--so siddown and watch. Others play to different instrumentation and most of my favorite cuts were nowhere to be heard. Mutron Angel's instrumental track nosed in for a couple seconds, and Makes No Sense at All lasts maybe a standing eight-count. The Train, Mighty O or Peaches? Nowhere. Even the brief Dyin' to Live track never shows up.
But don't take the soundtrack vs. film comparison as a movie critique. It's not a six-course meal of a movie to begin with...more of a greasy plate piled high with something naughty covered in sauce. So put your elbows on the table and get sloppy already.
I wanna hang out with K (or is it V?) more. She seems to be a lotta fun.
