Sad Farewells to Old Friends

Once upon a Life with the Ex ago--when 'Best Buy' was a bit more about Best Buys, before a good whupping from Amazon set them straight again--I bought these ginormous speakers for only $50 each.

There were four of them, actually. I mounted large shelves on my family room walls, five feet off the ground. Each speaker was laid sideways on the shelves for Real Theater Sound. Quite hideous looking, if I'm honest with you. B would have never allowed it.

Some time during a detente with the ex, I talked my way into two of them. Not fair to me in the strictest sense, since I'd purchased all four. But close enough. After all, there wasn't room for four in my two-bedroom apartment.

The smaller pair were my bedroom speakers at first...later, our surround speakers when B and I bought our house.

All were replaced perhaps a year ago with gorgeous Polk Monitor 70 Series IIs. Nobody sprung for the old ones at our last garage sale. Pity. They were in perfect condition. Still, I've got more than my $100 worth of service from them.

They were taken to recycling after Presidents Day.

We've moved on to bigger and better, but it's sad to see them go.

It is sad to see pefectly usable speakers go. I felt that way about my "stereo unit" that I'd bough because CD were the new, big thing

We'd reached the point where the storage space they consumed was more valuable than the speakers...
